Future Loading by Callum Simmons (Piicasa) is the first commission of Create Mayfield – a campaign launched in 2026 to support and celebrate Manchester’s creative community as part of Mayfield’s transformation into a new green city district.
The mural marks Simmons’ largest commission to date, and the longest continuous hand-sprayed mural in the UK. For Callum, who grew up in Chorlton and later studied at the renowned Central Saint Martins before returning to Manchester, it represents the most ambitious work of his career.
Stretching for more than three hundred metres along the edge of Mayfield Park, the work reflects the energy of a city in motion. Capturing a moment where past, present and future intersect.
Working with spray paint, a medium defined by speed, immediacy and transience, Callum approaches the surface as something alive, with the mural unfolding section by section, each pixel responding to the last. Created in the open the work begins to belong to the place as soon as it appears.
The mural links today’s park with its future extension and the wider evolution of Mayfield into a place where creativity, nature and innovation coexist and where the future of the city is created in plain sight.
